Beau Sia – Asian Invasion

30 11 2009

I was reminded of my beloved Def Poetry Jam yesterday by my friend Sharon. If you don’t know what that is then bye. I consider music poetry but I wouldn’t say poetry is music. But fuck it, it’s lyrical. I was searching for a piece for todays Music Monday and I wanted a “more poetic” joint but I came across this and it spoke to me and had me cracking up. Beau Sia speaks out for the Asian-American community loudly so I co-sign. Think I might turn to Def Poetry for a few more posts.

Thank You

The photograph above was taken by Susan Nam. A talented photographer local to Philadelphia who happens to be a personal friend of mine. I chose to use this picture as a visual for this post because it shows me how bad things really could be. This rapping thing was put into perspective for me last night. Read what I mean after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Johnnyphlo feat. James Ha – Too Late

24 11 2009

My man Johnnyphlo has just released another single from his upcoming album Basic Strategy. This time he teamed up with my Philadelphian brother James Ha on this track titled “Too Late.” Production for the track comes from another homeboy of ours, Xubie, who also has production credits on my upcoming album The Effect. Muzo don’t play! Download the track here.

Jay Sean – Down (Candle Light Remix)

23 11 2009

If you have a radio or cable television then you have heard Jay Sean’s Down. This ballad version speaks to me more than the more up tempo dance version of the same song, however. Maybe it’s the romantic side of Decipher, who knows, but it is what it is. His album came out today I believe. Go support another Asian-American artist doing it big!

Mind to Mic Boston College 11/19/09

17 11 2009

Your boys Decipher and Johnnyphlo will be at Boston College’s Mind to Mic event along with Jin The Emcee. You can get details for the event from the flyer above and the Facebook event. This should be an ill event so if you’re in the area make sure to come out for something special!

CHOPS – Glass Cielings

17 11 2009

DOWNLOAD HERE

If you never heard of CHOPS you’re living wrong. He is a pioneer for people with a face like mine. He’s been doing his thing with the Mountain Brothers camp since back when and now he’s an accomplished producer for many major artists. In this project he remixed Lil’ Wayne’s No Cielings mixtape and a couple more choice Weezy tracks. I listened to the whole thing and feel like he created a whole new vibe to the joint. I know you’ve heard A Milli a milli times too but the way he mixed it up is vicious. Listen to CHOPS A Milli after the jump.

Ryan Leslie – Making of Gibberish

17 11 2009

Ryan Leslie is an accomplished songwriter and composer. He’s a genius, literally. He got a perfect SAT score at 15 and graduated Harvard at 19 but still decided to go the music route. He has a few clips on Youtube showcasing his improvisational skills but this is one of his more recent ones. I believe the actual track Gibberish is just a reference track with freestyled melodies but damn if it ain’t catchy. Listen to the recorded track after the jump.
