This joint was made strictly for fun and the love of alcohol. We took Neyo’s Champagne Life and put a Korean twist to it. This is our homage to the nectar of the Korean God’s, soju. The intro and hook are supposed to be us just chilling at the Korean BBQ spot and getting our soju shots on, getting loud, and having fun. We brought Muzo and Beautiful Cycle together on this one. Something we like to call The Muzical Cycle. I introduce the track, Mani runs up right after me, Lyricks comes in with some heat, then JL anchors the track with something heavy. We wrote and recorded all of this within an hour at RePercussion studio’s in Philly, shout out to Andy Ha! Download it for free here. It ain’t all that serious, just something we had fun making so we hope yall have fun listening!

Decipher – All I Want + Lyrics + Live
29 10 2010This song is especially near and dear to me. I’ve spoken on my mother’s passing in songs before but I really dedicated this entire track to the matter. As corny as it sounds I can express myself better through music than regular speech and that was the case here. I’ve cried enough tears of my own so I needed to bleed through the pen. I could write on and on about the subject because I think about her everyday but I felt like I needed to move on and really pour my heart out on this so I won’t have to linger with the pain as much. It was a very emotional song for me to write and record. You can hear me get choked up and my voice shake at the end of the second verse but I kept that there cause it was genuine and that’s real rap. This past October 24th marked the 5 year anniversary of her passing and I can’t say it gets easier but I do understand it better. This track is also for anyone that’s lost a loved one and can feel the lyrics as I do. I hope you can hear this one, 엄마. Shout out to Jeffry Usi/grrrindin for the upload! Lyrics and live performance clip after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Decipher – Sinner’s Prayer + Lyrics
28 10 2010Sinner’s Prayer is a song I still get praise for even though I wrote it nearly 6 years ago. It’s an honest approach at speaking to God. I can’t say that I’m the most devote Christian or anything like that so I can’t front that I have that in me. So when I pray it sounds something like this. I wrote this when I was struggling with a lot so you can hear the frustration and angst in the words and delivery. The original lyrics were actually maybe about half as long as the last few bars of it were completely different. I performed the original version once but I felt I needed to say so much more so went back and changed it before I recorded. What nobody really knows is that I wrote this to a different beat. I wrote it to The Game – My Love For You but I couldn’t find that instrumental so Jstar constructed this track for me and the rest is history. Shout out to cudencuden for the upload! The lyrics bleed on this joint so please pay close attention after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Decipher – Good Times + Lyrics
27 10 2010This is another joint off TBIL Vol. 1 which you can still download for free here. This song just speaks on nostalgia and how everything seemed better and brighter back then. It seemed easier being a kid but it probably didn’t seem so at the time. The grass is always greener, right? Shout out to insaneme3 for the upload. Lyrics after the jump. Decipher – Back Against the Wall + Lyrics
26 10 2010I’m only posting joints that supporters happen to have uploaded on Youtube because I assume those are the joints people are feeling. I’ll also be posting all the lyrics to the songs I’m posting for a few days. If you have a request let me know! Back Against the Wall is a cut off my free mixtape The Best Things in Life Vol. 1. It’s a song addressing the pressures and rewards of being me. I’ve gotten good feedback from this one so give it another listen if you like it or give it a first listen if you have not yet. Decipher feat. James Ha – Step into a World Freestyle
25 10 2010My upcoming album The Effect is ALMOST ready to go! I will be releasing a compilation mixtape titled The Cause that will include some very old material along with cuts from Up and Comin’ , Demix, some unreleased joints, as well as some collab tracks. In preparation for that I will be posting some throwback joints of mine to wet your palette. This will be the first of many.
James approached me about doing this video a year ago for a contest to open up for Common. Unfortunately, we were a day too late to be eligible but I posted the video on my youtube anyway. James does his signature body beatboxing and I spit a few bars. Admittedly, its not the most high production video or anything but I thought it might be something yall might enjoy. Even though this was just a year and some change ago, I feel I’ve come a long way in many aspects. You’ll see what I mean once The Effect is on deck!

Big L & Jay Z – 10 Minute Freestyle
21 10 2010Yall better be familiar with the classic 7 Minute Freestyle. I feel like the younger generation might not be but I hope this post can shed some light. I’ve smoked countless blunts to that joint and had it memorized at 16. This radio freestyle plays like an arranged song to me. Even to this day I hear it randomly sprinkled in late night radio sets when the DJ doesn’t have to spin the regular rotation. Last week we got a special gift. The complete 10 minute, studio quality recording of the radio freestyle between Big L and Jay Z was liberated! I hope this means as much to you as it does to me. I’ll always have an appreciation for the more raw, gritty sounding 7 Minute Freestyle just because that’s what I grew up on but to get this rare gem 15 years after its initial conception is dope. Keep diggin’ in these crates! Download the track here.
PS: I know I been slacking on my posts so I think I’m gonna overload and just post as much as I can for a while.

Far East Movement feat. Ryan Tedder – Rocketeer (Live)
11 10 2010Yall definitely know about FM now from their smash single Like a G6 and if you support them you have to cop their album “Free Wired” which drops TOMORROW and is available for itunes presale RIGHT NOW. Johnnyphlo attended ISA NY and told me they performed this song at the end of their set and I was instantly depressed that I missed out. Ryan Tedder of One Republic lends his vocals to the chorus of this joint and kills it. It isn’t the bouncy electro feel that G6 gives you but that’s not what they were going for with this one. This song ends the album on a euphoric note telling us to reach for the stars and I feel that. This is a live performance of the song but like I said the CD quality joint will be available TOMORROW so please support and show them that Asian-American talent is and will be supported!

JL x Josh Shepard x Manifest x Petey O – Scarves
6 10 2010VA been grinding! Petey O produced the joint and also anchors the track with a verse. I’m loving the police dispatch samples on the intro and outro. I feel it works perfectly. JL starts the song with his bullet flow and kills it. Josh Shepard might have my favorite verse on here, dude is a monster. Mani gets raw for the third verse as well. The Beautiful Cycle x Belly Out boys are known for their lyrical ability and don’t need a hook to have you enjoy a track so this is a joint that displays their skills as wordsmiths. It’s dope so check it out yourself and let me know what you think.
